Catholic Night Prayer

+ In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Take time now to quiet your heart, and let go of today’s worries.

Be at peace in the presence of God, knowing that he loves you.

Invite the Holy Spirit to enlighten you, so you may recall God’s blessings.

Come Holy Spirit, Come.

ADORATION & THANKSGIVING

O Jesus, eternal God, I thank You for Your countless graces and blessings.

Let every beat of my heart be a new hymn of thanksgiving to You, O God.

Let every drop of my blood circulate for You, Lord.

My soul is one hymn in adoration of Your mercy.

I love You, God, for Yourself alone. (Diary of St. Faustina #1794)

EXAMINATION OF CONSCIENCE

Have you loved God with all your heart, soul, and mind?

Have you loved your neighbor as yourself?

Were there any difficult moments today?

ACT OF CONTRITION

My God, I believe in You, hope in You, and love You above all things with all my soul, with all my heart and with all my strength; I love You because You are infinitely good and worthy of being loved; and because I love You, I repent with all my heart of having offended You. Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the living God, have mercy on me, a sinner.

SEVEN SORROWS OF MARY

The First Sorrow: The Prophesy of Simeon.

Consider the affliction which Mary endured at the prophesy of holy Simeon, that Jesus was destined for the rising and falling of many, and would be rejected, causing her great suffering. Let us comfort Mary’s heart by eagerly accepting Christ into our hearts.

Hail Mary…

The Second Sorrow: The Flight Into Egypt

Consider the anguish which Mary endured as she fled with Jesus and Joseph to Egypt to find refuge. Let us comfort Mary’s heart by being always attentive to the needs of the poor and the oppressed.

Hail Mary…

The Third Sorrow: The Loss of the Child Jesus

Consider the anxiety which Mary endured at the loss of her dear child Jesus.

Let us comfort Mary’s heart by being steadfastly devoted to finding Jesus amidst the worries of everyday life and in the face of everyone we meet.

Hail Mary…

The Fourth Sorrow: The Meeting of Jesus and Mary on the Way of the Cross

Consider the grief which Mary endured at the sight of her son, so wounded and bruised, on the way of the cross. Her heart broke because she could no longer protect him. Let us comfort Mary’s heart by picking up our crosses daily and following Christ.

Hail Mary…

The Fifth Sorrow: The Crucifixion

Consider the bitter agony which Mary endured standing at the foot of the cross gazing at her crucified son, until he breathed his last. Let us comfort Mary’s heart by abandoning the ways of sin, and living by faith in Jesus who loved us and gave himself for us.

Hail Mary…

The Sixth Sorrow: The Taking Down of the Body of Jesus from the Cross

Consider the miserable desolation which Mary endured as she held the body of Christ, her innocent child, sacrificed for our sins, and laid upon the altar of her hands. Let us comfort Mary’s heart by trusting wholeheartedly in the ocean of Mercy which Christ opened up for us.

Hail Mary…

The Seventh Sorrow: The Burial of Jesus

Consider the sorrowful solitude which Mary endured as she buried her only son. Let us comfort Mary’s heart by keeping her company as good and faithful brothers and sisters in Christ, loving God and each other every day.

Hail Mary…

SALVE REGINA

Hail, holy Queen, Mother of Mercy,

Our life, our sweetness and our hope.

To thee do we cry, Poor banished children of Eve;

To thee do we send up our sighs,

mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.

Turn then, most gracious advocate,

thine eyes of mercy toward us;

And after this our exile,

show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.
